Several Options

One of the trips I’ve been wanting to do and hopefully will get to do when I next go to our apartment is to visit Sozopol.  I understand it’s about 75 miles south of Vlas.  There are several ways to get there – you could organise a taxi (hmm – maybe a bit pricey!) or catch a bus from Sunny Beach bus station (one goes every day at about 10 am and then returns at 4 pm – but don’t quote me on this – I may be wrong) or

The Fastest!

I think my preferred way will be to go by hydrofoil from Nessebar.  During the peak holiday season – and weather permitting of course – there are daily trips at 9.30 am, 2 pm and 6 pm.  It stops off/picks up at Pomorie so you could always split the journey I suppose.  Nessebar to Sozopol takes approx. 40 minutes.  Coming back, the hydrofoil leaves Sozopol at 10.30 am, 3 pm and 7 pm. Plenty of time I would have thought to do a bit of sightseeing, shopping and even have some lunch.  Tickets can be purchased either at the old harbour in Nessebar or even on the ferry itself.  Have a look  at the hydrofoil website for more info and ticket prices (adults go for 50 leva – Nessebar to Sozopol return with child prices at 25 leva as at June 2015).  Fast Ferry

Less Ferry Trips At The End Of The Season

The timetable for the hydrofoil after 7th September reduces to 4 days per week (Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays and Saturdays) and looks like they finish altogether after 26th September (for 2015 – other years may vary).

Excursions

If you fancy a more structured day you can be collected by coach from Elenite, Vlas, Sunny Beach and Nessebar and enjoy a guided tour around Sozopol plus have lunch at Gloria Mar Restaurant. Then have some free time to explore before your return trip (this day out would cost 89 leva, 45 leva for a child aged between 5 and 12).  There’s a breakdown of the day on the website.  And if you want to cruise up the Ropotamo River into Sozopol, there’s also an opportunity to do that.  You have to book either of these excursions the day before and they’ll tell you where the coach pick-up points are.  Either pop into their office at Nessebar or give them a ring.  Tel: +359885808001   Fast Ferry Excursions    email: info@fastferry.bg

If I get to go in September I’ll be able to tell you even more (straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak!) ….

UPDATE –

My son and his partner recently holidayed at our apartment (early September) and took an early morning bus to Old Nessebar, hoping to take the hydrofoil across to Sozopol. Unfortunately they have decided to dis-continue the crossings already for this year. The staff at the booking office said it was because it had been a very quiet season 🙁
