Another supermarket is being built in St Vlas (May 2018). It’s in a really good position on the main road just before the casino. Looks as though it’s going to be Aldo but I don’t know any more details apart from that. It’ll definitely be the largest in the village.
They’re getting on with it pretty quickly so I’m sure it won’t be long before it’s open.
Whilst on the surface the new supermarket looks like a good idea there is a downside.
The 2 main supermarkets in the area, Marina and Revue stay open all year round so for those who also visit out of season there is a choice and a place to buy provisions.
I bet this Aldo will be no different to all the other Aldo’s and close for the winter. And thereby is the problem is that if the new supermarket takes away most of the most profitable summer trade the other two will not be viable and may have to close, leaving nowhere to buy anything out of season.
I for one will continue to use the existing supermarkets and only use the new one for things that I want that they do not stock.
Hi Colin. Yes, I see your point. When we first started going to St Vlas the supermarket with the fountain in front was the nearest to Compass. Then the one opposite was built (Revue?)and the trade to the original one obviously dropped dramatically. Then Marina opened and no doubt took a lot of trade away from the other two. Mercury probably took some custom away too.
I suppose we can’t do anything about competition and there’s always likely to be collateral damage. We particularly like Marina supermarket – not just because of its location to us but we’ve always found a good range of items there, as well as the staff being so friendly. We also like Revue but do tend to favour Marina. And, as you say, both are open out of season. However, I can’t deny we won’t be having a look around Aldo when we next go.
Hello! The new supermarket opened about a week ago. It’s called parkmart and I have feeling it’s part of the Aldo Brand. They have a good choice but a bit expensive and I do feel that my loyalty still belongs to Marina and Revue who are open all year round and are very freindly. 🙂
Thank you Frank. I’m off to Vlas next month so will go and have a look.
