Also known as “International Womens Day”

Sunday 8th March 2015 was Ladies Day in Bulgaria.  While we were at St Vlas this March, we noticed that the flower shops were open and that many people were walking around with fresh flowers, either in a lovely bouquet, in a plant pot or as a single bloom.  To be honest we wondered whether their Mothering Sunday came a week earlier than in the UK, but after  “googling” the date, it was clear what was going on.  It was just coincidence that this year’s celebration fell on a Sunday (it’s usually treated as a bank holiday).  Lots of ladies were out and about, either with other females or with their families and many celebrated the day with a meal at some of the restaurants.

There were several tables of people obviously celebrating the day in Central Restaurant, St Vlas.  I have to say, there was a lovely joyful atmosphere that evening.  Whenever a female came in, she was always carrying flowers.
