Helen Worth (“Gail” in TV’s soap Coronation Street) appeared on todays ITV1 Good Morning Britain programme  to make an appeal about two lions – named Jora and Black – that used to be part of a circus in Bulgaria. Helen is a Patron of the Born Free Foundation.

Jora and Black

Jora and Black are two seven-year-old lions known to be brothers. They are caged in a metal beast wagon in the back yard of an ex-circus trainer’s remote mountain lodge near Sofia.

Thankfully, live animals have now been banned from being used in circuses in Bulgaria but it’s really sad to think that these two beautiful creatures are being kept in cages (and likely to be for the rest of their lives) if something isn’t done about it.

The appeal for the rescue of these lions has been launched by the Born Free Foundation in a bid to secure their relocation to the international wildlife charity’s sanctuary at Shamwari, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
